I can't find my sketches, but I have showed them already. I went through a lot of options before settling on a soup bowl shaped like a turtle. It's currently on the greenware shelf waiting to be put in the kiln. This bowl is specific for things mostly sea themed such as seafood bisque, clam chowder, or maybe even turtle soup. I'm extremely excited and happy with how this turned out and can't wait to be able to glaze it.
For my colored clay, I was going to decide on making a set of bowls with different patterns in them, but I had to improvise when one broke. These are the final results of my colored clay. I ended up making a decent bowl when one had broken, and made a vase to go along with it. The outside of the vase has dots while the inside has stripes along it. The bowl looks more marbled than what the original had looked. For my lidded vessel, I went through a lot of options before settling on a vase, but it'll look like it's made of stacks of blocks with a little top on it. This is the final result of my lidded vessel, I'm very pleased with it, but maybe I could have made the blocks a bit bigger. The lid fits nicely in the top, and I have yet to glaze it but when I do, I'm thinking about trying to do a fade from one color to another. For my slabs I decided on using Courage from Courage the Cowardly Dog to represent the opposites of Fear and Happiness as seen through his many expressions in the show. My cultural element is Pop Culture (the show). This is the final result of my slabs. Before I had to fire them, I went through the clay slabs and made more details and cut away/added more elements. I have not yet painted them, but I'm going to. For my cup sketches, I decided to make a blueberry, a Taurus/bull cup, and a cup that looks like it has drips. This is the final result for my Taurus cup. I used black over red fire brick, and realized I should have let the horns have black over them also or gone over them with another coat. I rolled a slab and wrapped it around a tube to get it's shape and pulled the handle, along with making the horns. This is my blueberry cup and I'm very satisfied with it. I added 4 leaves instead of just 2 and decided to put a little worm perched on it. I used the pinch pot method. I carved the leaves and coiled the little worm. For my last cup, I rolled a slab and used a small tube as the shape. I then went through and cut out strips of clay from leftover slab that resembled drips. I kinda realized that maybe I should have used different colors. This teapot was glazed using Shino Glaze. The person who created this allowed "crawling" which is a defect that travels in the glaze only. These were done using white crystalline glaze. You would start out with a base coat of white usually, and with some blue and green accents, or brown. The crystals "grow" while in the kiln and create the look. |
